Session 03 · Three seats

Every team is three of these.

Session 03 · One unit

You are a collective team.

Seven teams are competing, but inside a team nobody wins alone. The trainer cannot promise what the builder cannot build. The builder cannot build what the scoper never pinned down.

One team. One answer.

Session 03 · The method

Tell the story of their business.

Not your story — theirs. Every business will sit still for these five questions in this order, and by the end of them you know what to build.

1
The book
Where it came from
  • Who started it, and why
  • What they did before
  • What has already changed once
2
The business
How it actually works
  • What they sell and to whom
  • Who does what, day to day
  • Where the money comes in
3
Four branches
The workflows
  • Payroll & accounting
  • Procurement & invoicing
  • Sales
  • Inventory
4
One thing
And so — the solution
  • The one branch that hurts most
  • What you would fix first
  • What you would not touch
5
Integration
How it lands
  • What software they already run
  • What it has to talk to
  • Who keeps it alive after us
Session 03 · Your turn

Into your teams. Build questions.

Ask about what already happened.

Session 03 · Regroup

Let’s hear them. One per team.

The only filterAsk about something that already happened. A question about the future gets you a polite yes from a guest being kind in a classroom — and teaches this room nothing.
Buys a courtesyWould an online booking system be useful?
Buys a factWalk me through the last repair someone booked. How did it get on the calendar?
Buys a courtesyDo you think inventory is a problem?
Buys a factWhen did you last not find something a customer asked for?
While he answers, write his sentence down word for word. Not your summary of it — your summary is already a guess about the solution, and the guess is the part that is usually wrong.
Session 03 · The unasked questions

What they are thinking and will not say.

A guest in a classroom is on their best behaviour. They will nod, they will be kind, and they will not ask you any of these four out loud. Answer them anyway — being answered before you asked is the whole feeling of being understood.

?Is this going to waste my morning?
They closed or covered a shop floor to be here. That is the first cost they paid, and they paid it before hearing a word.
Answer itBe ready. The story is ninety seconds because their time is the scarce thing in the room, not yours.
?What is this actually going to cost me?
Nobody believes free. They are waiting for the invoice, the upsell, or the licence that starts in month four.
Answer itIt is free, and the real price is their attention — a few hours early on, then a weekly visit. Say that number out loud before they have to ask.
?Do these people understand MY business?
Jewelry is inventory you can hold, trust you cannot, and margins nobody outside it guesses correctly.
Answer itThis is what beat four is for. One accurate sentence about their counter is worth every slide you could have made.
?What happens to it in December?
The semester ends. They have been left holding software before.
Answer itSay it first: they own it, it runs without us, and handoff is a graded part of the course — not a favour.
Session 03 · Close

Thank you, David.

A working business closed a morning, drove down here, and let a room of students take it apart. That is not normal, and it is not owed to us.

Before you leave
Write down one sentence he said, in his words.
Tonight
Pick your team and role at connect-ai.world/teams.
Tuesday
One page: the workflow you are going after, and why it is you.
Earn the second visit.
